Where to stay

Ok big disclaimer here, I don't want to be a Michelin rating service, so I won't be commenting on the demeanor of the concierge, but I'll try to list places I have stayed, places other people have stayed (and been nice enough to let me know about... hint hint please send me places), and anything outstanding (postive or negative) about the places. I've got no ties to any of them, and generally stay in a bunk on a friends boat lately anyway.

The biggest suggestion I can make is ask the dive charter operator you are going out with. They'll know the local situation the best.

Morehead City/Beaufort area

Both Olympus and Discovery have bunk houses which go for $10-$15/night/person. Be sure to ask whether or not sheets are provided. There is also a Hampton Inn just a few miles down the road (west). It was around $60/night but after we crammed (censored) people into it, the per person cost came way down....

Hatteras/Ocracoke Area

no advice...

Wilmington/Southport Area

In southpport I've stayed at the "Sea Capt. Motel" (910-457-5263). It was around $40/night for a double and is right by the docks where Scuba South docks.

Nags Head

no advice...
