Diving on the coast of NC
NC Coastal Diving
The Gulf Stream comes pretty close to NC (especially during the summer)
giving us warm water diving (75-80+ degrees) for a large part of the
year on some great wrecks from World War II, the Civil War, etc etc.
Here is a crude map of NC showing (at least) the relative locations
of the major dive areas and a few of the major highways.
I'll add detail as time goes on, but thought I'd put up something as a start.
Also back on the top level page are some
links to information about NC including the
Outer Banks Ferry Schedules and
our Artificial Reef program.
The big (wreck) diving areas here seem to be (to me anyway) the areas around
-
Beaufort/Morehead City,
Hatteras/Ocracoke,
Nags Head, and
Wilmington.
Some of the wrecks can be reached (reasonably) from 2 of the areas. I mostly
dive off of MHC and Wilm, so more wrecks from that area are listed
on the wreck page (so far).
Based upon a number of requests I'm going to try to give some information
about where to stay.
NC Wrecks
Various NC Wrecks and Charter services.
(adding reviews as time permits)
North Carolina has an extensive Artificial Reef program providing divers with some nice wrecks (in addition to the many we had anyway) for diving.
NC Shore
Of course if boat rides aren't your thing, we also have some
shore diving
that you can do. See Farb's book in particular for details.
