NC Wreck Diving Day

A typical day wreck diving in NC

A typical diving day on a coastal charter means:

* arising at 5:45,
* eating (depending on how your sea legs are :-) )
* getting to the dock by 6:30,
* handing over $35-$85,
* A 1-3 hour boat ride out to the wreck(s),
* Either 2 in-shore (1 hour out) dives (to around 60fsw),
* or 1 off-shore (2-3 hours out) dive (100+ fsw) plus another either in- or off-shore dive.
* Get back to port ~1-5pm, depending upon what you dove.
* Clean up, wash salt off of gear, and get ready to repeat the next day :)

So this may not sound like fun to everyone, but trust me those boats don't have a problem getting customers. Why? well because it is just a blast. A diver new to the area might want to start with a half-day charter (cheaper and closer to shore... ie shorter boat trip) to the Indra, or something similar, just to get a feel for things. Of course one time we charted the whole six-pack and the captain asked us what time wanted to leave port... so of course we stayed in our beds until 7 that morning...

During the summer some places run afternoon charters to the "in-shore" wrecks (ie the same wrecks that qualify as half-day trips...).
